N.B. Inland hills are the first part of this route, followed by a stretch along the coast and the chance to make short detours to the beautiful beaches of Vada and Marina di Cecina. The only hard parts are the uphill climbs, but they're not too long, up to Riparbella and Rosignano Marittimo.

Set off from Vada cycling for 5 km on the flat as far as Cecina town centre, reaching the roundabout near the hospital. Follow the signs for Riparbella - Montescudaio. After a few hundred metres, you ride under the SS 1 Variante Aurelia. Pedal on the flat for about 3 km until you reach a roundabout, where you carry on towards Riparbella.

Once you've crossed the bridge over the river Cecina (4.9 km) and a level crossing, join the SR 68 and carry straight on as far as the junction (5.8 km). Turn left on to the SP 13 towards Riparbella. After approximately 1 km the road begins to climb gradually for 2.5 km to Riparbella (216 m above sea level, 9.5 km). Ride through the centre of the village, carrying on towards Castellina Marittima. The road initially continues to climb up steeply before gently winding its way along the hillside, offering wonderful views over the Etruscan Coast. The gradual climb ends just before Castellina Marittima (375 m above sea level), which you reach after approximately 10 km (19.9 km).

At the junction in the town centre, follow the signs for Chianni, Casciana Terme and Pisa. At the next junction, after 500 m, carry straight on towards Pomaia - Santa Luce, alongside the cemetery and beginning the downhill hairpin bends, which wind for approximately 3.5 km. You'll soon reach Pomaia at 177 m above sea level (25.2 km). Take the SP 60 “di Poggiberna”, which gently drops down to the valley floor over 7.2 km, reaching the junction with SR 206 (32.4 km). Turn right, then immediately left, climbing up towards Rosignano Marittimo along the SP 10. You see the town before you arrive at a junction. Follow the signs to SS1 Aurelia, then to Vada (41.8 km).
