The ring of Ghizzano, Libbiano and Legoli

Pedaling through the Tuscan landscape, among white giants and colorful villages

The route begins in Ghizzano, the village painted in bright colors by David Tremlett, a well‑known contemporary artist. We will pedal along a loop that from the colorful village will take us for 21 kilometers through the landscapes within the municipality of Peccioli.

After a climb in the shade of an avenue of cypress trees, we will reach Libbiano, where, in its astronomical observatory, a new asteroid was discovered and given the name “Peccioli”. Just before reaching Legoli, we will be fascinated by the “Green Triangle”, the futuristic waste treatment and disposal facility surrounded by towering white giants rising out of the ground. Benozzo Gozzoli’s Tabernacle, kept in the chapel of Santa Caterina in Legoli, is certainly worth a short detour: it is a splendid fresco by the great Tuscan painter, dating back to 1479.

The last stretch will take us back to Ghizzano through a wonderful Tuscan landscape, with beautiful panoramic views. Near the village is also the archaeological site of Santa Mustiola.
