The Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa is one of the oldest in the world. Born as a "Gallery" at the end of the sixteenth century by the will of Ferdinando I dei Medici, today it retraces over 400 years of history of scientific-naturalistic research of the Pisan University. Since 1986 it has been housed in the premises of the Certosa di Calci and represents one of the most important naturalistic museums in Italy.

Exhibits of zoology, fossils and minerals, organized according to systematic and thematic criteria, are exhibited on about 5000 square meters of rooms and galleries on three floors. Of considerable importance is the Gallery of cetaceans, among the first in Europe for scientific value, the sector of Paleontology with the dinosaurs and the Aquarium Gallery, today the largest freshwater aquarium in Italy.

The Museum offers diversified visits, an intense educational activity that covers different scientific fields and all the school sectors, and exhibits unique collections for historical and scientific importance, as well as hosting important temporary exhibitions. A place of exception, where amazement and enchantment mingle with science, history, art and nature.
