Green Flags: how to recognize the best beaches for family vacations
Water that is nicely shallow, calm and clean, a convenient beach with the necessary space between umbrellas for playing, all accompanied by dining facilities and lifeguard services for bathers. These are the main things to look for when choosing a beach for kids! Heading seaside with little ones is easier thanks to the “Bandiere Verdi” (“Green Flags”) list created by pediatricians, an accolade that experts grant to child-friendly shores! Here are the 2026 Green Flags on the Tuscan coast.

Versilia—best known for its golden beaches and a long tradition of fun and entertainment—has numerous beaches suitable for children and families. Bandiere Verdi were awarded to Camaiore(Lido Arlecchino/Matteotti),Forte dei Marmi, Pietrasanta (Marina di Pietrasanta, Tonfano and Focette) as well as to Viareggio. Impressively, Viareggio has received this recognition for 18 years! In addition to the quality of the beaches and sea, here you can find dedicated spaces, family environment and many activities for kids.
On the coast of Pisa, green flags fly at the Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone. Finally, heading down the Etruscan Coast, the ideal places to spend a child-friendly vacation are San Vincenzo and Marina di Bibbona.
In Maremma, famous for its crystal-clear waters, sandy seabed and well-equipped bathing establishments, little ones can have fun on the sand at Castiglione della Pescaia, Follonica, Marina di Grosseto and Principina a Mare. The Argentario, with many coves that can only be reached by sea or by walking along uneven paths, also includes several Green Flag shores: Monte Argentario with Cala Piccola, Porto Ercole with Le Viste, Porto Santo Stefano with Cantoniera, Moletto and Caletta plus Santa Liberata with the Bagni di Domiziano, Soda and Pozzarello.
