“Alfeo Ricci” Museum of Elba Minerals
A collection of minerals from different parts of Elba are on show in Capoliveri
The “Alfeo Ricci” Museum of Elba Minerals is in the centre of Capoliveri, in a publicly owned building, and is host to minerals coming from different parts of Elba Island, particularly the eastern area where iron minerals are to be found. In the museum, many examples of exceptional beauty, rarity and scientific value are showcased in a collection that represents a complete range of minerals from the island.
Particularly rare is the prazolite Quartz, discovered by the scholar Alfeo Ricci for the first time on Elba, the intriguing and rare polarised Magnetite from the Calamite mine in Capoliveri and the rose-shaped Calcite with epidote, an extraordinary and unique pseudo-horizontal crystallisation with overlapping crystal layers.
