Sunflowers in Tuscany

It's hard not to fall in love with a field of sunflowers: they give us a sense of happiness, like a sun shining in a beautiful summer day. Although sunflowers are native from the Central America, in the 18th Century they became very popular in Europe and nowadays they are almost a symbol of Tuscany. When you hear the word "girasoli" it's because someone is talking about sunflowers here in Italy.

When are sunflowers blooming in Tuscany?

The best way to find sunflowers in Tuscany is drive on small roads in the countryside in Val d'Orcia or Maremma, for example. Another good idea is to book some days at Tuscan villa or at an Agriturismo.
