The town of Monteriggioni looks as if time had never passed: the city is perfectly preserved and is characterized by high fortified walls that were built according to the curves of the hills. It's a must-see destination all year round, but on June 1st is the perfect getaway for the whole family. At Castle of Toys both adults and children will have fun in the historic and fairytale setting of Monteriggioni castle. Visitors will be welcome by characters of Italian fairytales wonderfully adorned in costumes and the kids will start a journey back in time to discover the wonders of this ancient castle and relive the magic of the legends and fairy tales.

In the castle there will be five game areas: Land of Toys (as called in Carlo Collodi's book "The Adventures of Pinocchio"), the Enchanted Forest, the donkeys area from Pleasure Island and a real joiner’s workshop in the Master Woodcarver’s house. During the event the children will meet fairytale characters such as Candlewick, also known as Lampwick and in Italian is called "Lucignolo". Candlewick, with his bells, will announce the imminent departure to Pleasure Land (the castle), but the children will also face the Fox and the Cat or  Jiminy Cricket warning the kids that they will be transformed into donkeys. Last but not least, they will meet Mangiafuoco, the terrible Puppet Master, an aerialist Blue Fairy (also known as "fairy with the turquoise hair"), jugglers and the traveling puppet show.

In the main square there will be a craft fair with traditional stands offering a wide range of woodworking items made in Tuscany and old fashioned cotton candy and candy apple stands for a sweet break. During the day, a horse will be available for carriage rides to take kids and their parents around the castle. Do you think that the pinball is just a modern arcade game? Surprising, the original pinball was invented in 7-8th century and in the late 1700s a standardized version of the game became known as "Bagattella". Castle of Toys will host the first international exhibit of the ancient game Bagattella with original pieces on display dating back from the 8th century to present days. At the end of the day the staff will gather all parents and children for a giant treasure hunt and in order to win you will need to ask for help from the fairytale characters.
