Terre di Casole bike hub: cycling in the heart of Tuscany

700 km of routes and widespread services for a cycling holiday

Casole d’Elsa is the perfect place for a green holiday: located in a strategic position between Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano and Chiusdino, it's surrounded by hills covered with vines, olive trees and woods that make it an ideal destination for cycle tourism. The Terre di Casole Bike Hub was formed here, a network with more than 700 km of low-traffic roads combined with widespread services for cyclists. A stone's throw from the Via Francigena and the famous Strade Bianche, it offers a variety of itineraries with different levels of difficulty able to satisfy mountain bikers, families with children or roadbike and gravel lovers.

Starting from Casole d'Elsa, it continues to the nearby municipalities of San Gimignano, Volterra, Radicondoli, Monteriggioni, Sovicille and Monticiano thanks to the permanent route of the Grand Tour of the Val di Merse. This ring itinerary of about 170 km is perfectly signposted as 90% of it develops across secondary roads and extends over a large area that reaches the southern offshoots of the Elsa and Cecina valleys, up to the Ombrone Valley passing through the municipalities of Radicondoli, Chiusdino, Monticiano, Murlo and Sovicille. From Casole d’Elsa, there are also itineraries for road bike enthusiasts who want to visit Chianti or Volterra. One of the ring routes that includes gravel terrain crosses the Berignone Nature Reserve: an area consisting of woods and scrubs populated by a rich fauna.

To complete this proposal, the territory also offers a network of connected services such as farmhouses and other bike friendly accommodation facilities, bike shops and bikecafes but also partner wineries that produce fine wines such as Terre di Casole DOC.

All that remains is to set out on your discovery of these hills and its villages, where time slows down and allows us to experience and share a unique "style" and "quality" of life.
