San Gimignano Civic Museum is located in the 13th century Palazzo del Popolo, in Piazza del Duomo. It includes the Palazzo Comunale, la Pinacoteca and la Torre Grossa from where you can see an amazing view.
The visit begins from the Camera del Podestà, a room that still preserves the 14th century frescoes by Memmo di Filipuccio and Azzo di Masetto.
The Sala Dante holds the marvellous Maestà of Lippo Memmi based on a work by the artist's brother-in-law, Simone Martini, exhibited in the Siena Palazzo Pubblico.
On the second floor of the Palazzo Comunale there is the Camera del Podesta with its magnificent frescoes and the Pinacoteca, which holds masterpieces of Sienese and Florentine painters from the 13th to the 15th century, such as Filippino Lippi, Benozzo Gozzoli, Benedetto da Maiano and Pinturicchio.
The tour ends climbing the scales of the Torre Grossa, dating back to 1311, from which you can enjoy an amazing view over the whole town of San Gimignano.
