The Lizzatura is a traditional method of lowering blocks of marble down the mountain. This is a story of mountains, a story of men. Sliding over beams covered in soap passed on by men standing from behind to the ones at the front, the load of marble was sliding down at the rhythm given by the capolizza (the head of lizzatura) from the quarry on the mountain to the loading area on the plain, where pairs of oxen would complete the transport. Sacrifice, risk, respect for the mountain, harmony in the workgroup. A hard life, a contract, temporary job. A team of men unrecognized with honours or glory. These photos have been taken by Roberto Pers in Resceto, in the surrounding of Massa. Thank you Roberto!
