Riccardo Francovich Territory Documentation Center

Discovering the archaeological finds at the Rocca di Scarlino that bear witness to local history

The Riccardo Francovich Documentation Center is located in the Scarlino Town Hall and collects archaeological finds unearthed during excavation campaigns at the Rocca Aldobrandesca.

The archaeological materials on display, like the numerous objects of daily use, allow for historical reconstruction from the Bronze Age to the 17th century, and illustrate the various phases of life in the area of the Rocca di Scarlino.

Also on display inside the documentation center is the so-called treasure of Scarlino, found in a jar in the wall of the Rocca's rectory and containing 100 gold coins dating from around the 14th century from seven different mints.
