Where every child can touch the stars with a finger

In Stia, inside the National Park of the Casentino Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna, is located the Planetarium, a facility dedicated to the dissemination and teaching of astronomy. Here visitors can observe the celestial vault thanks to a special dome inside a room, as it would appear in an outdoor location without the disturbance of city lights. Thanks to this reconstruction, it is possible to recognize the constellations and identify the celestial stars, learning to orient oneself with the stars.

The Planetarium represents a perfect place for educational activities with school groups, to which the winter months are mainly addressed (during this period, access to the facility is possible only by reservation). The initiatives are entrusted to specially trained expert astronomers who follow the pupils, targeting the activities according to their level of learning. In addition to this, the Planetarium provides instruments for measurements and observations, videos and slides, software, books and magazines.

With the end of the cold season, informative evenings begin, from March onward, which continue through the summer on a monthly or fortnightly basis. The program then goes on to intensify in July and August, when these evenings occur weekly along with, in addition, night excursions for the direct observation of the National Park sky.
