Tuscan Maremma Grand DeTour — North Loop
Medieval villages, mining hills, and ancient springs: a ride through the real Maremma
This loop route covers the northern half of the Tuscan Maremma Grand De-Tour, a cycling journey through land that moves between sea, hills, and medieval villages.
From Grosseto, the heart of the Maremma, the route reaches the coast at Castiglione della Pescaia and the clear waters of Cala Violina, then climbs back inland toward the mining country and medieval villages of Massa Marittima, Roccatederighi, and Pari.
Along the way you’ll find white gravel roads, panoramic stretches, and fortified hilltop villages in landscapes that shift constantly: from the Colline Metallifere to the woods of the Farma valley, all the way to the ancient Etruscan remains at Roselle.
A route that ties together nature, history, archaeology, and local tradition — the Maremma that doesn’t usually make it into travel magazines or Built for anyone who wants to ride through the authentic Maremma that travel magazines often miss.
