Holiday packages

A stay on the Tuscan coast with reserved parade seating, a Carnival Museum visit, a papier-mâché workshop and dinner in Darsena.

by  Tuscanteam

Experience Viareggio Carnival through its spectacular floats, papier-mâché craftsmanship and local traditions. This four-day, three-night stay, from Friday to Monday, combines the Sunday parade with cultural activities and local dining, leaving time to enjoy Viareggio and its seafront at your own pace.

Your journey begins with an arrival transfer from Pisa, Florence or Lucca and accommodation in a selected four-star or five-star hotel, preferably along the parade circuit, subject to availability.

Saturday is dedicated to discovering the art of Carnival. A visit to the Carnival Museum introduces the history of the celebration and its artistic development. A hands-on papier-mâché workshop then gives you the opportunity to try some of the techniques behind Carnival creations. After your included lunch, enjoy an afternoon at leisure. In the evening, head to Rione Darsena for dinner in a neighbourhood closely connected with Viareggio’s maritime identity and local traditions.

On Sunday morning, visit the outdoor areas of the Carnival Citadel to watch the floats emerge from their hangars and begin their journey towards the parade circuit. An explanation of their themes and creative details prepares you to recognise the works during the afternoon procession. This experience takes place exclusively outdoors: access to the hangars is not permitted for safety reasons.

After your included lunch, watch the parade from your assigned seats in the Piazza Mazzini grandstands. You can also leave the stands and join the crowds along the route, experiencing the Carnival atmosphere at street level.

Your final night in Viareggio allows you to enjoy a relaxed evening before Monday’s departure, with breakfast and a transfer to Pisa, Florence or Lucca.

This experience is suitable for individual travellers, couples, families and groups. The museum visit, papier-mâché workshop and explanation of the floats are conducted in English.
