An area that bears witness to ancient mining activities in the memory of miners of the past

The Roccastrada Ribolla Mining Park represents one of the main entrances to the Metalliferous Hills National Park of Grosseto, dedicated to the lignite route.
Near Roccastrada, the park is rich in evidence of ancient mining activities dating back to Etruscan and medieval times, as well as 20th-century mining activities.
One very important area is along the course of the Farma Stream in Torniella, where there is an interesting system of ironworks.
Sites included in the Roccastrada Ribolla Mining Park also include Ferriere Farma, Roccatederighi, Poggio Mozzeto and Ribolla

The Ribolla lignite mine is an important resource of the area and offers the opportunity to explore much of the original complex - including the living quarters and dormitories, the entertainment venue, the lamp room and the shafts - the Casteani mine and finally the Montebamboli mines.
This place, unfortunately, is also sadly known because, in 1954, one of the greatest mining tragedies of the post-World War II era took place here, in which 43 miners lost their lives due to a gas leak.
For this reason, over the years the site has also become a memorial place, to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives and to warn future generations so that such events do not happen again.
