Beyond the Renaissance. From Dürer to Parmigianino

From September 10 to January 5, 2027, Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence will host Oltre il Rinascimento. Tra Dürer e Parmigianino (Beyond the Renaissance. From Dürer to Parmigianino), an exhibition celebrating the technical and aesthetic richness of European Mannerist graphic art.

The exhibition features works from the private collection of German artist Georg Baselitz, as well as works from the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.

The exhibition transcends the canonical image of the Italian Renaissance, exploring the experimentation that defined European Mannerism, with particular focus on engraving, chiaroscuro and graphic art.
The story begins with Baselitz’s collection, reflecting his deep interest - both artistic and collecting - in the 16th-century masters.

The exhibition reflects the artistic research of the great Italian Mannerists, including Parmigianino and Andrea Schiavone, followed by engravings of the Fontainebleau school and the Northern masters, from Hans Sebald Beham to Albrecht Dürer.
Considerable attention is also dedicated to the chiaroscuro experiments of Ugo da Carpi, Domenico Beccafumi, Andrea Andreani and Hendrick Goltzius.

The selection thus creates a dialog between different artistic experiences, offering a panorama of 16th-century European graphic art marked by the pursuit of new technical and formal solutions.
