Since 1971, the artistic event of Forme nel Verde (translating to “Forms in the Green”) has combined contemporary art and landscape in a harmonious dialogue between art and nature.
The main feature of the event is the geometries of the Horti Leonini, the 16ᵗʰ-century Italian garden in San Quirico d’Orcia. A unique place where each year an artist or a collective of artists proposes their own vision of Land Art, seeing sculpture interact with the space and landscape.
In addition to the Horti Leonini, other spaces are involved in each edition, selected from among iconic locations that characterize the landscape of San Quirico and Bagno Vignoni. These spaces have hosted works by the likes of Arnaldo Pomodoro, Costantino Nivola, Pietro Cascella, Mirella Forlivesi, Lorenzo Guadagnucci along with Manzù, Alessandro Tagliolini, Carmelo Cappello, Matthew Spender, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Maurizio Cattelan.
The 2026 edition, titled In Itinere. The Quantum Man on the Move … An Inner Journey Along the Via Francigena, presents a sophisticated, widespread exhibition that brings the great tradition of contemporary sculpture into dialog with the extraordinary historical and scenic heritage of the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This edition focuses on the artistic work of the master Gianfranco Meggiato. His monumental creations, characterized by fluid forms, intertwining materials and reflective spheres, find their ideal setting in the Renaissance geometry of the Horti Leonini and among the famous Cipressini, inviting visitors to reflect deeply on the connection between consciousness, time and nature along the ancient route of the Via Francigena.
The cultural tour expands within the halls of Palazzo Chigi Zondadari with 2 major sections. The 1ˢᵗ, titled Alle Belle Statuine, is an exhibition of satirical terracotta sculptures by renowned cartoonist Emilio Giannelli, marking his 90ᵗʰ birthday. The 2ⁿᵈ is the Forme nel Verde YOUNG exhibition space, a prestigious showcase featuring works set in natural contexts by young, emerging talents from Italy’s leading fine arts academies.
An exceptional immersive experience that combines conceptual precision, spirituality and the timeless beauty of the Tuscan countryside.
