From July 5 to November 1 at Palazzo Casali, the Etruscan Academy Museum of the City of Cortona (MAEC) is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Gino Severini, marking the 60ᵗʰ anniversary since his death.
Born in Cortona in 1883, Severini left the city at the age of 16 to seize Paris and become a protagonist of the European Avant-garde, between Futurism and Cubism. But he always returned to his homeland. Actually, every summer from 1946, even to the point of making his famous Via Crucis (Stations of the Cross) right here.
The exhibition unites over 80 works, counting paintings and drawings, lent by major Italian and foreign museums. The heart of the exhibition is La Danse du Pan Pan a Monico, a monumental 4-meter or 14-foot futurist canvas sent from the Centre Pompidou in Paris, shown in Italy for the 1ˢᵗ time in more than 35 years. An immersive multimedia installation completes the exhibition.
The visit continues downtown along an itinerary to discover the places associated with Gino Severini, in a unique combination of art, landscape and memory.
Opening hours: April 1 to October 18 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm; November 1 to March 31 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (last admission 4:30 pm). Closed Mondays.
