The geothermal natural manifestations of Sasso Pisano, in the territory of Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina, are presented as a barren and wild landscape, an evocative environmental area that almost seem like a hellscape.
On this unchallenging trail of short duration (some 30 minutes), it is quite easy to see very strong contrasts of colors due to the alteration of the rocks, rare forms of vegetation, minerals in continuous formation (yellow crystallizations of sulfur can often be observed near the cracks from which the gases reach the surface), scorching rocks and hot springs. During your visit, walk along paths obfuscated by steam, accompanied by the sound of bubbling water.
On the final part of the trail, it is possible to see from above the operation of a geothermal power plant, able to harness the heat from the ground to produce renewable energy.
