Walking the C11 trail, a loop of about 0.6 miles or 1 kilometer that winds through the squares and alleys of Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina, discover a veritable open-air exhibition where the walk is transformed into a continuous hunt for artworks.
15 trompe l’oeil works, created for the Imago in Villa 2024 competition, adorn the façades of several buildings in the village. Artists from around the world have put their talents to good use, creating paintings that now pave a permanent path through the streets of the historic center.
The French term trompe l’oeil, which literally means “deceives the eye,” denotes a painting technique able to create surprising optical illusions.
Through plays of perspective and realistic details, the works seem to come to life, giving the impression of 3-dimensional objects and scenarios emerging from the painted surfaces.
