The “Pierluigi Gherardi” Models Museum in Pietrasanta, situated in the former Sant'Agostino monastery, documents the artistic activity of the sculptors who came from all over the world to the Versilia city to craft their art in the local workshops here.
The museum displays 700 models of sculptures by more than 350 international artists who worked in the area’s marble workships and bronze furnaces. The model is the sculptor’s original idea and helps us to understand the process that births a sculptural work. The sculptures made based on the models on show in Pietrasanta are found in museums, collections and parks all over the world.
Leading names in the field of contemporary sculpture are showcased in the collection, from Fernando Botero - which also lived in Pietrasanta - to Igor Mitoraj, Niki De Saint Phalle to Giò Pomodoro.
There is also a vast paper and digitized archive about the artists and workshops.
