Madonna della Neve Sanctuary, Quadalto
A place of peace and spirituality immersed in nature in Palazzuolo sul Senio
The Madonna della Neve Sanctuary is located in Quadalto, in the Palazzuolo sul Senio municipality, along the road that climbs up to the Passo della Colla, amid scenery dominated by pristine oak, chestnut and beech woodland. The small oratory was erected in 1459 and later extended in the early 1600s to adopt the church’s current size and appearance.
Fronted by an airy portico, the church vaunts a nave and two aisles divided by arched pillars. A much-worshipped Botticelli-style icon stands on the main stone altar. In the choir hemmed in by iron gates by Dino Chini, there are two ornate Baroque-style firedogs and an exquisite 18th-century organ. The monastery, erected as from 1744, and the old Molino di Quadalto, now used as guest quarters, are found next to the church.
