The Archaeological Museum
Discover the Etruscan and Roman history of this region
The Archaeological Museum in Orbetello is housed in an ancient building known as Polveriera Guzman. This building dates back to the period of Spanish domination and is where Garibaldi gathered his weapons and munitions in 1860.
The exhibition covers two floors. The ground floor focuses on the area around Orbetello and the artefacts on display are Etruscan and Roman finds unearthed during local archaeological digs. These finds allow an accurate reconstruction of life here in ancient times.
The first floor has a more varied display. Collections come from all over and include ceramics, bronze items and other archaeological finds. The origins of these pieces is often unknown and the artefacts are organised in order of age.
Opening hours: THE MUSEUM IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE
