From Greve in Chianti to Montefioralle and Panzano

A short but challenging itinerary for gravel bikes and MTBs, in the heart of Chianti Classico
by  Chianti

A short and easy loop albeit not one to be underestimated due to its 1640 feet (500 meters) in elevation gain across just 10.5 miles (17 kilometers), rising particularly along the first 3 miles (5 kilometers) to reaches over 984 feet (300 meters).

The start is from Greve in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico, in a landscape dotted with a scattering of vineyards, farms and agriturismi.

The route takes you to the Romanesque Parish Church of San Cresci, which is worth a stop to take in the beauty of the sites and the uniqueness of the architecture. Shortly after you reach a crossroads where we recommend a short detour to the left of about 2297 feet (700 meters) to visit the charming medieval village of Montefioralle. Having retraced your steps, continue on your way to the village of Testa Lepre where you turn left and take the SP118 road, to be followed to the castle of Panzano in Chianti, an ideal place for a rejuvenating stop.

From Panzano, continue back to Greve in Chianti, along a short and largely ancient dirt road that skirts the property of Vignamaggio, a Renaissance-era villa.
