There is a fantastic garden in Florence, right near Piazzale Michelangelo, that is open for just a few weeks of the year and features thousands of varieties of Irises (over 1500 to be specific, including 15 that risk extinction). The so called Giardino dell'Iris is accessible from the East balcony of Piazzale Michelangelo (entry is free) and guarantees impressive views over the city. Needless to say, it's a photographer's heaven! The Iris garden is open to the public usually from April 25 to May 20. 2017 opening times in the period April 25-May 20: Monday to Friday 10am-1pm and 3pm-7.30pm; Saturday and Sunday 10am-7.30pm Parks and gardens, big or small, well-known or almost unheard-of: check out our Tuscan map!
