The 1ˢᵗ and only Film Festival from the heart of the Via Francigena

On July 24 and 25 from 9:00 pm, at the Arena Cinema of the Rocca di Montestaffoli in San Gimignano, the Francigena Film Festival returns for the 7ᵗʰ year.

The Festival is dedicated to the theme of travel and walking, understood not only as a physical displacement but also as a spiritual, metaphorical and human journey.

Entries hail from various countries, including India, the United States, Germany, Taiwan, Korea, Russia, Romania, Palestine and Italy, to chronicle journeys through time, space, memory, faith, growth and passions.

Screening on Friday, July 24, will be the finalist short films competing for special mentions and the Best Short Film award.

The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 25, followed by the screening of Franco Zeffirelli’s film Brother Sun, Sister Moon, restored in 4K and shown in the original English language with Italian subtitles.

The screening is part of the celebrations for the 800ᵗʰ anniversary of Saint Francis’ death and takes on special significance in San Gimignano, the place where many scenes of the film were shot.

The Festival prize, Il Sacco del Pellegrino (The Pilgrim’s Sack), is made from crystal and gold dust by ColleVilca artisans, designed as a symbol of the wealth of experience each filmmaker shares with the audience. Admission is free.
