Lucca as an expansive stage and laboratory of thought

From April 29 to May 3 in Lucca, the Lucca Classica Music Festival returns with an event that puts great music in dialog with history, art and current events, through a rich program of concerts, meetings and thematic itineraries.
On the bill are 90 appointments along cultural, artistic and civic pathways traveled by protagonists from the Italian and international musical and intellectual scene.

Among the most significant cores of the festival is SAN FRANCIS 800, with over 10 appointments dedicated to the relevance of the Franciscan message and its links with music and neuroscience.
Throughout the days of the festival, the cloister of the Fondazione Ragghianti will present a sound installation by Matteo Manzitti dedicated to the Cantico di Frate Sole.

On April 29 at 9:00 pm in the San Francesco Church, the Ensemble Micrologus will be followed by remarks from Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.

The next day, on April 30 at 5:00 pm, again at the San Francesco Church, is La ferita, la letizia: faccia a faccia con Francesco (The Wound, the Joy: Face to Face with Francis) with Davide Rondoni and Silvia Chiesa on cello.

Slated for May 2 at 9:00 pm, again in the San Francesco Church, is Francesco with Aldo Cazzullo and Angelo Branduardi.

The festival even offers participatory pathways and moments of reflection such as La Gioia dell’Arte (The Joy of Art), an interactive experience in the Abbracciare il Suono (Embracing the Sound) section led by pianist Gloria Campaner, and Amonie, a dialog between Campaner and Alessandro Bergonzoni on May 1 and between Campaner and Daniela Lucangeli on May 2.

Space is likewise given to projects that bring music to schools and healthcare facilities, brought together in the section Il Valore della Comunità (The Value of Community), featuring youth choirs and orchestras and the Perché Ci Vuole Orecchio choir, conducted by Carla Nolledi
Starring in several events will be young musicians from the L. Boccherini Conservatory of Music.
On May 3 at noon, the Boccherini Choir, conducted by Sara Matteucci, will hold a concert at the San Paolino Church.

Continuing on May 3 at 6:30 pm is the final concert by the Conservatory Orchestra in the San Francesco Church.

Further enriching the program is L’Iconografia Francescana (Franciscan Iconography), presented by Paolo Bolpagni, with 7 premiere pieces composed by the Master MAI students and performed by an ensemble of the Conservatory.
