From October 2, 2025, to January 6, 2026, Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence hosts Rebel Irony, the first major Italian retrospective dedicated to Clemen Parrocchetti (Milan, 1923–2016), a nonconformist artist and original voice of the twentieth century.
Closely linked to the feminist movement, Parrocchetti developed a provocative and authentic visual language, challenging patriarchal culture and exploring the complexity of female identity.
The exhibit brings together over one hundred works—including paintings, drawings, sculptures, tapestries, and archival materials—offering a powerful insight into an artist who skillfully combined aesthetic research with political engagement, all through a lens of refined irony.
The exhibition opens with the section dedicated to the series Love and Devouring, 1969, in which Parrocchetti captures the rebellious spirit of 1968 through a vibrant, ironic, and provocative visual language.
This is followed by the Solar Trophies, marking a more lyrical turn where her expressionism softens without losing its communicative power.
The core of the exhibition is the section titled Objects of Female Culture, featuring everyday items—needles, bobbins, dolls, kitchen utensils, and syringes—reimagined by the artist as powerful symbols. These “anti-trophies” become tools of protest against female subjugation and the violence embedded in patriarchal structures.
On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors can join guided tours that trace the key stages of Clemen Parrocchetti’s long artistic journey.
