Collegium Vocale Crete Senesi

Once again this year, the village of Asciano – the heart of the Crete Senesi – has the honour of welcoming the outstanding musicians of Collegium Vocale Gent for a full immersion in classical music, set within the evocative surroundings of the Church of San Francesco in Asciano.

Join us this summer for the 26th edition of the festival, bringing together exceptional artists and an unforgettable repertoire in one of Tuscany’s most enchanting settings.

A unique event where great music meets the beauty of the landscape, with the presence of Philippe Herreweghe, conductor and artistic director of the festival.

Opening Concert
Kristian Bezuidenhout | Für Kenner & Liebhaber

Kristian Bezuidenhout opens the festival on fortepiano with C.P.E. Bach, two Haydn sonatas in the minor mode, and Mozart's K. 457. Music for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike, played by one of the artists who has reshaped how this repertoire is heard.

Guy Cutting & George Ireland | Love – Sacred & Profane

Tenor Guy Cutting and pianist George Ireland trace the twentieth-century English song from Finzi and Vaughan Williams to Britten's Canticle I. A morning recital where love appears in every register: pastoral, restless, devotional, and quietly transcendent.

Fabrik Quartet | String Creatures

Three works that treat the string quartet as a laboratory: Liza Lim's living sonic organism, Héctor Parra's mythological web, and Xenakis's Tetras, where rhythm and structure collide. Contemporary writing in a Romanesque church, on a summer evening.

Charlotte Spruit & Angus Webster | Between Lyricism and Modernity

Charlotte Spruit and Angus Webster make their Crete Senesi debut with Poulenc's wartime sonata, Sibelius's late miniatures, and the youthful Fauré First. Three composers, three voices, all searching for an answer in the small forms.

All concerts take place at the Church of San Francesco in Asciano (Siena), with the exception of the closing concert.

Closing Concert
Collegium Vocale Gent & Philippe Herreweghe | Lagrime di San Pietro

Twenty madrigals and a closing motet for seven voices, written in the final year of Lasso's life. Forty years after first recording it, Philippe Herreweghe brings the cycle to Sant'Anna in Camprena with Collegium Vocale Gent, in the room this music seems to have been written for.

The closing concert will be held at Sant'Anna in Camprena, Pienza.
