Enjoy a visit with a licensed guide to the most important buildings in the heart of Florence’s historic center: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Duomo Museum and the exterior of Giotto’s bell tower.
The Duomo square offers a breathtaking view especially at sunset, when the rays of the sun "light up" the polychrome marble of the buildings that form the most relevant religious complex of the city. In fact the chromatic homogeneity (green, white and red) beautifully harmonizes a stylistic variety. The stylistic differences can be explained by the construction works that went on for about four centuries, from the middle of the 11th century, when the works at the Baptistery started, until the middle of the 15th century when the dome was completed by Filippo Brunelleschi; that very same Cupola, with its imposing size, dominates the square and the whole city.
Following a chronological order, the visit to the religious centre of Florence starts from the Baptistery. With our certified guide you will have the opportunity to admire, inside, the stunning Byzantine mosaics of the vault while, outside, you'll gaze in awe at the masterpiece by Lorenzo Ghiberti, the east door of the Baptistery, commonly called "the Gate of Paradise".
The second stage of your journey to discover the places of faith in the square, will reveal to you the massive cathedral, the Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore.
The final destination of the tour will take us to the museum of "Opera del Duomo" where you will admire up close works of high value such as "La Pietà" by Michelangelo.
