Hike along the vie cave between Pitigliano and Sovana
An archaeological and natural route through Etruscan canyons, rock-cut necropolises and ancient roads carved into tuff stone
Discover the rich territory of the tuff area between Pitigliano and Sovana together with a certified environmental hiking guide.
These two towns, carved and built into tuff stone, represent a remarkable heritage to explore. Pitigliano, historically linked to Etruscan civilization and the Jewish community, and Sovana, an ancient centre of Etruscan and medieval origin, preserve a valuable historical and archaeological legacy.
The experience includes two visits within a single full-day tour to discover Pitigliano and Sovana and their intricate network of vie cave, through an accessible trekking route suitable for everyone.
For those who wish, at the end of the day the group will be accompanied to a historic winery in Pitigliano for a tasting of the renowned “volcanic” wines produced in this area.
Each participant will have to provide their own lunch (not included). Own vehicle is required for travel between villages.

Plan
- Meeting in Pitigliano in the morning.
- We visit the village by foot after which we will carry out a hiking circular route of three Vie Cave.
- Transfer to Sovana to visit an archaeological area and other Vie Cave. Later, visit to the village and, for those who want to, transfer to a cellar in Pitigliano for a tasting of typical products.
- End of the tour in the late afternoon.
