Just a short walk from the center of Florence, under the famous Piazzale Michelangelo and along the Arno River, is the Rifugio Digitale, an innovative space and a new concept of cultural center. This place has its roots in a historical past, when it was an air-raid tunnel built in 1943, known as the former Rifugio della Fornace. After a process of careful redevelopment by the Archea Associati studio, the area was transformed into a dynamic space where the past and the future merge.
Today, the Rifugio Digitale is not just an art gallery but a contemporary place containing digital forms and the latest technological trends. The 30-meter-long tunnel, which has 16 screens along its sides, is the beating heart of exhibitions, performances and events spanning different art forms, also including architecture, photography, literature and cinema. An exhibition center where technology enriches perception and immersion in art.
Designed to be a constantly evolving place, the Rifugio Digitale presents itself as a reference point for new frontiers, promoting an ongoing dialog between art, people and technology. The project aims to become a platform for cultural innovation, where events, debates and meetings stimulate reflection and interaction. A true space of cultural rebirth, which comes to life from the foundations of an air-raid tunnel.
