A recreational area in the Wood of Santa Luce

Upstream from the Strada Provinciale del Commercio, the Wood of Santa Luce stretches for miles, a forest area of about 1,600 hectares located in the hills of Pisa, between the towns of Santa Luce and Chianni.

The Wood of Santa Luce is crisscrossed by paths and passable roads, and in the more open areas it offers wide views of Lake Santa Luce, the coast and the Tuscan Archipelago. Walking through the woods, one encounters mainly holm oaks, Turkey oaks and black hornbeams.

The area is particularly suitable for recreational activities, such as hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. For a pleasant break in touch with nature, the Poggio Querciolo recreation area, located 1 km from the village of Pastina, offers barbecues, wooden tables among the trees, drinking fountains and a lawn to play on.

The Wood of Santa Luce is home to the largest wind farm in Tuscany, surrounded by roads and paths that were once used for collecting wood. The park consists of 13 wind turbines of 1.8 MW arranged along the direction that due to the orographic characteristics of the terrain and the dominant wind direction is optimal.
