An exciting journey of discovery of the blue planet

The Aquarium Mondo Marino is an aquarium located in Valpiana, in the town of Massa Marittima. A marine environmental education center and the headquarters of the Shark Studies Center - Scientific Institute, the aquarium conducts research on sharks in South Africa, Madagascar and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Aquarium Mondo Marino represents a journey of exploration of the blue planet, among Mediterranean, tropical and Atlantic tanks: a panoramic tank reproducing a tropical lagoon, with Blacktip Sharks and Grey Bamboo Sharks, stands out. There are a total of six species of shark than can be seen on the tour, as well as more than 150 other animals and plants, such as the Zebra and Leopard Moray, Batfish, and Clownfish. Since 2022, there has also been a pavilion dedicated to mollusks, which includes exhibits of considerable scientific interest.

During the summer, visitors will have the opportunity to attend the shark meal, during which the staff of the Studies Center provides a wealth of information on these animals, from the danger of extinction to preservation and conservation. In addition, it is possible to visit the nursery and the shark exhibit.

Children will be delighted with the "Explora Dinosaurs" section, outside the facility and dedicated to the evolution of the species. Twenty life-size replicas of dinosaurs and prehistoric fish are on display here to learn about a story that began 400 million years ago.
