Riding through the Val d'Orcia on two wheels

The medieval villages of the Val d'Orcia by bike, taking a break at the thermal baths

What if after a bike ride in nature, you treat yourself to a break at the thermal baths? All in the beautiful setting of the greenest and most fascinating Tuscan countryside.

The route is challenging, you need trained legs but it offers great breath-taking views and wide sights of the typical Val d'Orcia landscape. Many points of interest that you will cross: in addition to Bagno Vignoni we point out Radicofani and Castiglione d'Orcia strategically located and dominated by typical medieval fortresses.

Start immediately downhill from Castiglione d'Orcia toward Bagno Vignoni and then continue rapidly on a very short stretch of Cassia before turning right toward Spedaletto going up the course of the Orcia. You pass three intersections and then, past the locality of La Vittoria, take the first road on the right toward San Piero in Campo.

After about 14 kilometers you reach the road connecting Sarteano to Radicofani, where you turn right toward Radicofani (2,5 kilometers uphill), in a spectacular panoramic position between the Val d'Orcia, Monte Cetona and the Amiata.

From Radicofani continue downhill to State Road 2 "Cassia" where you turn left toward Bagni San Filippo, a pleasant spa resort at the foot of Monte Amiata. From this point you ride uphill to Campiglia d'Orcia, passing through the hamlet of Zaccaria, and then continue on a very scenic road to Castiglione d'Orcia, returning to the point of departure.
