The Shoe That Changed the World
From athletic tracks to NBA courts, from the streets to the fashion runway: in just over a century, the sneaker has evolved from a piece of sportswear into a generational symbol, a cult object, and a laboratory for innovation.
From 6th November 2026 to 2nd May 2027, the Prato Textile Museum Foundation and Beside Arts & Publishing will present the first exhibition in Italy to explore the sneaker through the lenses of history, culture, society, and design. It is a journey spanning fashion, sport, music, technology, economics, and sustainability—revealing how a simple shoe became a universal language.
The exhibition’s seven sections offer a collective narrative, developed in collaboration with scholars, collectors, and industry professionals, featuring iconic models, archival materials, and pieces on loan from both public and private collections.
