In Scarperia during May, one of the most eagerly awaited events of spring in the Mugello region takes place: Infiorata.
For an entire day, the historic center is transformed into a large open-air gallery, where the streets and squares are adorned with spectacular carpets of flowers.
The event involves schools, organizations, neighborhoods and locals, all engaged in a collective effort that begins weeks in advance. After choosing the theme and creating the preparatory sketches, the compositions are outlined in chalk on the stones of the village.
The night before, the materials are readied, with the flowers selected and separated petal by petal. At dawn on Sunday, the design takes shape on a thin layer of glue, through the patient arrangement of petals and natural materials.
The works thus created in the colors found in nature—from the reds and pinks of carnations to the green and brown shades of leaves—offer a captivating and unique view of the medieval village. Via Roma and the main squares, including Piazza dei Vicari and Piazza Clasio, become an artistic route that unites tradition, craftsmanship and a sense of community.
Each edition is dedicated to a specific theme, interpreted by the various participating groups that transform Infiorata into a story that changes chapter every year.
During the event, shops, restaurants and historic knife workshops remain open, while the Palazzo dei Vicari complex and Museum of Cutting Tools welcome visitors.
