The nighttime Palio delle Botti in Suvereto

On Thursday, August 13, starting at 8:30 pm, the historic center of Suvereto will host the Palio dell’Imperatore, the summer night edition of the traditional Palio delle Botti (Barrel Race).

The event commemorates Arrigo VII of Luxembourg, Holy Roman Emperor, who died suddenly in Buonconvento during a military campaign.

Competing for 1ˢᵗ place will be teams of barrel-rollers representing Suvereto’s terzieri (third-districts) and the surrounding villages.
The teams will compete in the preliminary rounds then the finals, rolling wooden barrels weighing 5 quintals along the cobblestoned streets of the village.
Technique, strength and coordination will be key to tackling the circuit and beating the competition.

The evening will also be an opportunity to discover the local culinary traditions and experience the historic center during one of the most popular nights of the summer in Suvereto.

Attendance is free.
