The Via del Volto Santo from Borgo a Mozzano to Lucca

This is the longest stage of the whole route but it is easy to ride, our final destination is Lucca in front of Volto Santo ("Holy Visage").

Departure is from the mystical Borgo a Mozzano, a place full of legends and tales about "streghi", that hosts the famous Ponte della Maddalena (better known as the Devil's Bridge).

We will travel along the bottom of the valley along the Serchio river and we'll visit the beautiful church of Santa Maria a Diecimo. After a stretch of busy asphalt we will begin the climb towards the hills, wonderful views of olive groves and magnificent villages will take us to the ancient town of Aquilea and from here down to Ponte a Moriano.

From here, following the river again, we will take the relaxing dirt bike path to Lucca where the legendary city walls and medieval towers will wait for us. In the cathedral of San Martino there is the goal of our journey: the Volto Santo.

Technical notes:
Length 25 Km - Difference in height: 450mt+ - Excursion duration: 8h
The excursion is suitable for hikers with minimum physical preparation. The path is always well marked and without technical problems.

Clothing and equipment: hiking shoes, layered hiking clothing, rain jacket, poles or walking sticks (optional), day pack, packed lunch, water to drink at least 1.5 litres, hat.
