Horseback ride to discover Valgraziosa

A horseback ride designed for anyone who wants to approach riding in a simple, safe way. The route unfolds in Valgraziosa, through woods, streams, and ancient paths that connect historic and scenic spots on Monte Pisano. From the Calci riding stable, you set off along easy dirt tracks until you reach a small ford: water flows between the rocks and the horse moves at a slow pace, giving riders their first taste of adventure. 

The route continues through shaded areas along Mediterranean woodland, reaching the Torre degli Upezzinghi, a medieval tower rising among the trees that recalls the area’s military past. You then head toward the Nicosia convent, now partly abandoned, yet still able to convey a unique atmosphere made of silence and walls that tell centuries of monastic life. 

The excursion ends at a viewpoint with an open vista over the Certosa di Calci, one of Tuscany’s most important monumental complexes, nestled among green hills and olive groves. Throughout the route, participants are accompanied by a handler on foot, providing support and peace of mind, especially for those who’ve never been in the saddle. 

The horses are used to beginners and walk at a steady pace, making the experience suitable for children aged 8 and up. No prior experience or specific gear is required: long pants, comfortable shoes, and the desire to spend an hour outdoors are enough. At the end of the ride (duration around 1 hour), each participant will receive a few photos taken along the way, a keepsake to take home or share.
