Guided tour of Accademia gallery and Michelangelo's David

David was sculpted by a very young Michelangelo (twenty years old) entirely from a single block of local Carrara marble and is 5.17 meters high. It represents the biblical hero David who slew Goliath. When it was inaugurated in 1504, it soon became the symbol of the defense of civil liberties embodied by the Florentine Republic. 

Also admire Michelangelo's famous unfinished sculptures: Prisoners and Saint Matthew.
