The Sant’Elena Spring in Terme di Chianciano, in operation since 1925, is located 1804 feet (550 meters) above sea level on a lovely hillside among centuries-old oaks, majestic cypresses and silvery olive trees, offering magnificent views of the Chiusi, Montepulciano, Trasimeno lakes and of Mount Amiata.
The waters of Sant’Elena have been known since ancient times to offer beneficial properties, long used by the inhabitants of Chianciano and the surrounding areas for their healing effects, as evidenced by the memoirs of the physician Baldassarri of Siena in 1756.
The waters gush out at a temperature of 55 °F (13 °C) near the ancient Chapel of Sant’Elena, after which it is named, and is defined by the alkaline earth metal bicarbonates.
The waters are said to assist with treating the kidneys and relieving urinary tract and gastrointestinal disorders.
The Sant’Elena thermal bath offers an experience that combines wellness with recreational, cultural and leisure activities. The elegant park that houses the springs known for their hydropinic cures provides the perfect atmosphere to indulge in some rest and enjoy a true “health vacation.”
The thermal spa is affiliated with Italy’s National Health Service for stones in the urinary tract and dyspeptic disorders of the gastroenteric and biliary systems.
In addition, the Terme di Chianciano, in the Valdichiana Senese, offers a range of hospitality services that render it possible to combine a thermal spa stay with scenic, gastronomic and cultural attractions.
