The Teatro Comunale dei Risorti of is located in Radicondoli, in the town’s historic center. The building housing this community theater was donated to the municipal government in the early 1920s by the Crocchi family, who owned the property at that time. Even before the aforementioned donation, the building had been the venue for various types of cultural performances. Once it came under municipal management, its use remained unchanged, as it continued to host both operas and plays. Also worth mentioning are the operettas, various musical performances and, above all, the many concerts held by the Municipal Band, which had its headquarters in this theater.
All of this took place over the thirty years from 1920 to the early 1950s, meaning that cultural activities did not cease even during World War II. It was at that point that the theater underwent a gradual shift in direction. In fact, it gradually became the town’s almost exclusive movie theater and was occasionally used as a dance hall for village festivals and as a meeting place for public assemblies. The Teatro dei Risorti was permanently closed to the public in the late 1980s, after a decade of significantly declining use.
Today, following its renovation in 2007, the building features the typical design of an Italian-style theater, with a seating capacity of 67 and, despite its small size, can stage plays, operas, concerts and cultural events. The renovation and refurbishment have transformed this theater into a hidden gem in the center of Radicondoli.
