Mario Ceroli’s sculpture is a symbol of the city of Vinci

Donated by artist Mario Ceroli to the city in 1987, the large wooden sculpture called Uomo di Vinci (Man of Vinci) stands in Piazza Guido Masi, behind the Castello dei Conti Guidi. It draws inspiration from the very famous drawing in the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice in which Leonardo depicts the idea of proportion as expressed by Vitruvius Pollione.

The three-dimensional version of Vitruvian Man honors the modernity and dynamism of Leonardo’s drawing, which had piqued Mario Ceroli’s interest as early as the 1960s.

The statue, interpreting the Renaissance principle of man as the measure of all things, has become a symbol of the city of Vinci and its unbreakable bond with Leonardo.
