A place to experience the traditions of the Chianti countryside first hand

The “Emilio Ferrari” Museum of Rural Life in San Donato in Poggio, in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, conserves and displays a collection of equipment, tools and instruments that document the farming activities and the small network of craftsmen tied to the rural world of the Chianti, as well as a large selection of copper utensils and containers dating mostly to the 19th century and coming from a variety of places.

The objects in the museum come from a donation by the engineer Emilio Ferrari (1915 – 1990), who lived for a long time in the village of San Donato in Poggio and collected objects related to rural life.

In the first room, visitors will find workspaces dedicated to the figure of the carpenter, shoemaker and blacksmith, while hanging from the ceiling are copper tools used in the home. In the second room, there’s a table for the farmer and tools related to life in a rural house.

The museum is temporarily closed to the public.
