The Abetone - Val di Luce ski area, in the municipality of Abetone Cutigliano, the heart of the Pistoia Mountains, is a paradise for those who love skiing and winter sports: a succession of peaks, ranging from altitudes of 1,200 to 1,950 meters, creates sweeping mountain views.
It is the largest ski area in central Italy, renowned for the quality of the slopes and the beauty of the area, offering fabulous scenery and unforgettable views in every season of the year.
With 50 kilometers of slopes and a system of 17 ski lifts, the ski area allows all types of skiers to find routes suited to their skill level, from school slopes to the most challenging slopes, and enjoy the experience of skiing with serenity and awareness.
For those coming to the resort from the main Tuscan cities, the first ski lift you encounter is the Regine four-seater chairlift, which takes you to an altitude of 1,711 meters, at the Selletta lodge. Descending the slope of the same name leads you to the center of Abetone. From here, it is possible to go back up using the Buca della Terra-Selletta two-seater chairlift. Along with the Villa Imperatori-Selletta two-seater, the Riva slope and the two school slopes, these ski lifts serve the village of Abetone.
From here, you can get to the Monte Gomito ski lift and, via the Stucchi slope, to the better-known Zeno 1, 2, 3 and Stadio Slalom slopes, served by the Ovovia cable car, which climbs up to the Monte Gomito lodge, at an altitude of 1,892 meters. On the clearest days, there is a sweeping view from the summit and even the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago can be seen.
The Ovovia station is also served by a ski lift and by a magic carpet ski lift, with a lodge down below, and it is connected to the Pulicchio slopes by the four-seater ski lift. Two lodges with the main slopes of Seghi, Coppi and Pulicchio are located in this area.
From the opposite slope of Monte Gomito, the view finally opens up to the Val di Luce and its populated area. With four chairlifts, two ski tows, two lodges, school slopes and the renowned Tre Potenze, Passo di Annibale and Celina Seghi slopes, this area completes what the resort has to offer. The ski lift departure points can also be reached by car, through six access gates mostly located along the state highway.
The ski area offers the opportunity to book skiing lessons for beginners and also offers advanced courses for more experienced skiers. Equipment rental services are also available for all ages and levels, as well as the option to purchase from specialized retailers.
The locality is equipped to accommodate people with disabilities: properly trained guides accompany skiers on the slopes, who can try their hand at this sport thanks to the monoski and dualski equipment.
The dense beech forests and ridges also make the ski area and the entire Abetone-Cutigliano territory an ideal destination for winter hiking enthusiasts. Licensed hiking guides accompany visitors on walks and snowshoeing to explore the mountain environment.
