The Turbone Valley by bike

An itinerary on two wheels among archaeological excavations and small medieval villages of the Valdelsa around Empoli

A meeting point in the central square of the historic town center of Montelupo Fiorentino. We ride the bike on the path along the Pesa River until we meet the Roman Villa of the Virginio, an ancient dwelling dating back to the 1st century B.C.

We continue to the junction towards Castiglioni until we reach the farm of Castiglioni dei Frescobaldi and then continue to the locality of Montagniana where we encounter the beautiful castle of Montegufoni.

The path continues towards San Quirico in Collina, Lucignano and Montagnana.

After a short but steep descent on tarmac, we encounter the Fornacette locality where we descend to the Virgignolo valley until we reach the medieval Village of Lucardo.

Leaving the village behind we head towards Montespertoli where we meet the beautiful natural trail, about 9 kilometers, all slightly downhill, that winds through the entire valley of the Turbone Stream from its source to its mouth in the Pesa River.

From here we resume the route along the Pesa to return to the starting point.
