September in Giglio Island: festivals, nature and traditions

Original post by Marta Mancini on Diari Toscani This year the summer in Tuscany seems endless! The mild temperatures of September enable to "extend" the summer for few days. So if you want to make the most of it, you can spend a weekend in one of the beautiful coastal towns of our region, from the Etruscan Coast to the Versilia … and let’s not forget the Tuscan Archipelago!

Among our proposals there is the Giglio Island, with its amazing nature, history and folklore. In September the colours and scents of the underbrush reach their peak with the blooming of heather, arbutus and cyclamen. If the weather is good you can still dive in the clear waters while sports enthusiasts can enjoy some fishing.

This is just part of what the island has to offer in the late summer and early fall. You can in fact add:hiking, bird watching and the last days of sunbathing-., September is a month full of events suitable for the whole family! A not to be missed event for the inhabitants of Giglio Island is undoubtedly the feast of San Mamiliano, the patron saint of the island, which takes place from September 11 to 20 in Giglio Castello.
