A route between landscapes and culture starting from San Quirico d'Orcia

The third recreational, motor and cultural walking event called "La Scarpinata" (The Trek) will be held on May 19.

The event will take place over three distances: 11.4 km, 25.2 km and 37.3 km, all starting from San Quirico d'Orcia, a town of Etruscan origin that from the 11th century onwards acquired increasing importance due to its particular geographical position and its location on the Via Francigena, along which part of the route of the walk will develop.

In 1667, Cardinal Flavio Chigi was appointed marquis of San Quirico by Grand Duke Cosimo III dei Medici, and it is from the square of the same name that the event will start. The routes will develop in the territory that represents the heart of Val D'Orcia, a cultural landscape recognized in 2004 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Scarpinata includes passing through the Borgo di Vignoni, where the imposing medieval Fortress and Romanesque-style parish church stand; with its splendid isolation, it is a true oasis of peace and tranquility, from which the entire Val d'Orcia can be seen. We then continue to Bagno Vignoni, a spa town known for its "water square", which hosted illustrious figures, such as St. Catherine and Lorenzo dei Medici.
Walkers will continue the walk by crossing the vineyard of the Sanoner winery to then continue on the Cerrolungo path descending to the B&B San Buona Ventura to then cross the Cassia towards the Podere La Cosona, past which we will head towards the Rigo, towards Poggio Bacoca, to then reach the marvelous chapel of Vitaleta, another pride of this enchanted path. From here, return to Piazza Chigi, through the Collegiate Church.
