Massa Underground is a 4-part series dedicated to the subsurface and geological heritage of Massa Marittima.
The program takes participants on a journey to discover lesser-known sites in the area—touching on minerals, water, rocks and traces of the past—through guided tours and excursions organized in collaboration with the Massetano Mineralogical Group, the Massa Marittima Speleological Group and guide Lucia Montomoli.

The Magic of Minerals
Tour the headquarters of the Massetano Mineralogical Group and the Marie Therese Eckelmans Martin Mineral Gallery, home to the treasures of the Galeotti Collection.
Next, stop at Bernardino Lotti’s birthplace, featuring a reading by Liber Pater.

Tour the tunnels at the Fonti dell’Abbondanza to explore the underground spaces linked to the history of water and the city’s water supply.

Hike to the Tane della Camilletta geological site to discover the geological features of the territory and the history of the rock that characterizes this area.

In the Footsteps of Time
Hike along the Fosso Valcastrucci in Fenice Capanne, exploring geological remnants and natural features that reveal the evolution of the area.
